Technical documents

This section contains the following document categories in support of the National Calculation Methodology (NCM) for the energy rating of dwellings, known as the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP):

  • Detailed calculation methods for certain technologies recognised in SAP. These act as supplements to the SAP specification document and are provided for different versions of SAP as appropriate

  • Test specifications and methods for technologies recognised in SAP. These are provided for different versions of SAP as appropriate

  • System design checklists, installation and commissioning checklists and/or installation certificates are provided for certain technologies recognised in SAP. These are provided for different versions of SAP as appropriate and must be completed, signed and submitted to Building Control Officers and SAP assessors to enable recognition in SAP calculations. NOTE: If a checklist is indicated as required, either via this website or directly by the manufacturer and it is not supplied to the SAP assessor, the product should not be included in SAP calculation

  • Principle papers define the treatment of technologies that have applied for recognition within the National Calculation Methodologies for energy rating of dwellings (RdSAP/SAP). The recognition of these technologies may be under consideration or have been formally rejected.

  • Low-temperature domestic heating systems - The efficiency of condensing boilers and heat pumps is higher when they supply heat at a lower temperature. SAP calculations allow for this in the case of a low-temperature heating system, subject to the outlined requirements. A supporting calculation tool is also provided.
  • Support documents provide information on current SAP development, particularly changes resulting from public consultation.
